History / Purpose

In 2011 a group of concerned Marlow residents and staff at the J. D. Perkins School banded together to discuss and plan and work to find ways to enrich the lives of our children. This group was formed when the NH legislature opted to change the formula for school funding, which would leave many rural towns with far less funding than wealthier towns and cities.

As a result of our brain storming the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust was formed.

The  purpose of this Trust is to “…assist education and developmental opportunities of children in the community of Marlow, New Hampshire.” This trust is not connected to the Marlow School District or the Town of Marlow, although the intent, in part, is to work with the Marlow School Board and the staff at J.D. Perkins Academy to enhance learning opportunities for our students.

Through fund raising activities and generous donations we will continue our mission to enrich the educational experiences of Marlow youth.

In June of 2015 we applied for, and received, 501(c)3 status. This makes all donations to the MCET tax deductible for the donor.

Outreach

The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust has been able to help with the following:

  • Grades K-3 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre
  • Grades 4-6 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre. The 4th-6th graders read the book before attending the play and wrote about their impressions. See some of the thank you notes in our photo gallery
  • The Marlow Library was able to afford supplies for the “1000 Books to Kindergarten” program.
  • Two separate NH Historical Society programs were presented to the students of the JD Perkins Academy.
  • Costs were defrayed for the 3rd/4th grade class in publishing their book on the 1941 Marlow fire.

The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust hosts the Gathering Place on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Chapel.

Other ways we continue to reach out to the community: contributing to the Welcome Marlow Babies Program and participating in the Odd Fellow’s business card placemats.
