Kindergarten
Kindergarten celebrates
diversity, creativity and individuality within each child. The teaching
philosophy is one of hosting a caring, democratic classroom where
students are encouraged to foster positive peer relations through
cooperative learning, team work, and problem-solving skills.
Students enter kindergarten with a wide range of abilities and experiences upon on which to build. We work daily with phonemic awareness activities through chants, poetry, read alouds, rhyming activities, and a strong emphasis on the Fundations phonics program. Students progress towards reading by working daily with letter and sound recognition (in isolation and in words), sight words, and a variety of games. Morning meeting is a place where we learn to count, explore the calendar, and learn from our community of peers, in a safe, comfortable environment.
